Dénia succeeds in promoting itself as tourist and gastronomic destination through golf

. The Townhall of Denia, headed by its Mayor and Tourist Counciler Vicente Grimalt, as driver of the Dénia City of Gastronomy Golf Tour, which runs through different points in Spain.

. The first of the four tournaments of the Dénia City of Gastronomy Tour 2016 was held at the National Golf Centre in Madrid and attended by a large number of specialized press.

​Dénia as tourist and gastronomic destination created the central message of the first tournament of Dénia City of Gastronomy Golf Tour held at the National Golf Centre in Madrid, an initiative driven by the Townhall of Dénia –headed by its Mayor and Tourist Councilor Vicente Grimalt- in order to exalt, among others, the recent designation as City of Gastronomy by the UNESCO, acknowledging the creative tradition and effort this town of the Alicante region made during the last years.

The event, which turned out to be a great success, centred its aim in promoting the tourist season beyond the usual sun and beach months, fostering complementary activities such as golf, a renowned asset within all year round tourist activities.

The opening test of the Denia City of Gastronomy Golf Tour, which will be running through different geographical points of Spain in this year, counted with the presence of numerous press teams specialized in golf sectors, tourism, health and gastronomy, all interrelated and contributing to the strong economic impact golf has in Spain.

In fact, a recent report commissioned by the provincial government of Alicante and Tourism of the Costa Blanca mentions that only the golf sector only in the autonomous community of Alicante is generating more than 7,500 working places, with a demand from 230,000 golfers per year, 88% foreigners.

Carlos García, director of La Sella Golf travelled to Madrid to attend a tournament that counted with the participation of 108 players coming from twenty clubs of Madrid. The competition and finished with the victory of Nicholas Pentreaht, with 41 points, the same that José Luis del Olmo accumulated on his card.

During the prize awarding ceremony Carlos García thanked the Townhall of Denia for supporting this initiative and AETHMA and the Marina of Denia for contributing so generous prizes, stating that “Dénia is awaiting you with open arms, lots of activities, wonderful weather and the best possible gastronomic offer”.

All participants, who enjoyed a lovely golf journey, received brochures and guides of Dénia and its region. The cherry on top was a draw for golf, tourist and gastronomic activities in Denia, thanks to the participation of La Sella Golf, La Marina de Denia, the hotels Denia Marriott, Les Rotes, Los Ángeles and the restaurant Quique Dacosta.
